Having a shutter speed set @ 500 and f/11 stop on a sunny day. Consider that a decent setting for that day, when clouds roll around you could go to another setting something like this stop down to f/8 or stay at f/11 and adjust the shutter speed to about 250.. ~ebbs

When using a 35mm Camera that utilizes meter reading. Use the meter the Subject and not the Surrounding details. This will give you an accurate f/stop and apperature reading for an optimal shutter speed which will give proper lighting in the final picture.
