UCD processes focus on users through the planning, design and development of a product.<\/p>\n<p>A Typical UCD Methodology<\/p>\n<p><strong>Analysis Phase<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Meet with key stakeholders to set vision<\/li>\n<li>Include usability tasks in the project plan<\/li>\n<li>Assemble a multidisciplinary team to ensure complete expertise<\/li>\n<li>Develop usability goals and objectives<\/li>\n<li>Conduct field studies<\/li>\n<li>Look at competitive products<\/li>\n<li>Create user profiles<\/li>\n<li>Develop a task analysis<\/li>\n<li>Document user scenarios<\/li>\n<li>Document user performance requirements<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"line-height: 24px;\"><!--more--><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<p><strong>Design Phase<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Begin to brainstorm design concepts and metaphors<\/li>\n<li>Develop screen flow and navigation model<\/li>\n<li>Do walkthroughs of design concepts<\/li>\n<li>Begin design with paper and pencil<\/li>\n<li>Create low-fidelity prototypes<\/li>\n<li>Conduct usability testing on low-fidelity prototypes<\/li>\n<li>Create high-fidelity detailed design<\/li>\n<li>Do usability testing again<\/li>\n<li>Document standards and guidelines<\/li>\n<li>Create a design specification<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Implementation Phase<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Do ongoing heuristic evaluations<\/li>\n<li>Work closely with delivery team as design is implemented<\/li>\n<li>Conduct usability testing as soon as possible<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Deployment Phase<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Use surveys to get user feedback<\/li>\n<li>Conduct field studies to get info about actual use<\/li>\n<li>Check objectives using usability testing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You may notice that &#8220;usability testing&#8221; appears several times throughout the process, from the first phase to the last.<\/p>\n<p>Providing a great user experience is an ongoing process.\u00a0<a title=\"User Experience Professionals Association\" href=\"http:\/\/www.upassoc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">www.upassoc.org<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Description: User-centered design (UCD) is an approach to design that grounds the process in information about the people who will use the product.
